New Borough Recycling Initiative Announced

8 Aug 2024

We are very excited to introduce the new improvements to our recycling centres. Over the next week, all our recycling centres across the Borough will have their old bins replaced with brand new ones that are better suited to serve residents.

The main difference you will notice is that the old metal bins are being replaced by more conventional plastic ones. The old bins required a specialist crane mechanism to empty, whereas the new bins can be emptied using the standard vehicles. This allows for a more flexible and frequent collection.

Instead of separating your recyclables, these new bins function like the kerbside ones where all dry recycling is mixed and separated at the facility. This allows for greater accessibility and prevents one certain bin from being filled up too quickly, preventing others from using it. You may notice a lower slit on some of the bins, this is to allow wheelchair users to access the bin as well.

We will be keeping a close eye on our centres to make sure they have appropriately placed collection times to prevent overfilling and fly-tipping. It will always be the intention of the Liberal Democrats to provide accessible methods for everyone to dispose of their waste.
