Heavy weather

Protests from Liberal Democrat Councilors have at last forced the county council to list closed schools on its website.

Liberal Democrat Group Leader Chris White said: 'We noticed on Monday morning that the website failed not only to give any detail other than the list of local radio stations but also suggested wrongly that most schools were staying open. Meanwhile, the radio stations were saying that there were too many closed schools to read out and that parents should consult the council's website.

'Other education authorities - even soon to be abolished Bedfordshire - managed to provide this basic service so it was baffling why Hertfordshire continued to make heavy weather.

'I am delighted to see that the website is now showing the list on its home page. Let us hope that the county council will at last acknowledge that it has one of the most useless web operations in the country and undertake a wholesale review of what information residents want and need - not what the bureaucrats think they need.'
