Rotten tree stump has been removed, but boarded-up windows remain unsightly with no paint.

Lib Dem councillor Malcolm Cowan was delighted to see that the rotten tree stump outside Sainsbury's - featured in last week's Welwyn Times - had been removed even before the paper was published.

'I had phoned the council to ask for them to get rid of this long-standing eyesore; I went back a few days after and it had gone. Full marks. Now I am asking them to get rid of the rubbish and broken concrete around the ramp to the underground car-park, and restore the lighting of the dark passages there, which shoppers have complained about. It will be several months before any possible start to redevelopment and the area must not decay during this period',

'I am also asking Sainsbury's to organise painting of the wooden boards over the windows above some of the shops that will disappear when the redevelopment starts.'
