The rail bridge between the WGC rail station and Hydeway is now effectively lit at night. It was heavily criticised in an official county council report about transport in WGC.

County Councillor Malcolm Cowan, who represents Handside and Peartree, intervened and organised a letter from the Chief Executive of Herts county council to Network Rail, asking for better lighting, action to allow removal of the 'buildouts' that narrow the usable part of the bridge, and a repaint.

'I was pleased that Network Rail initially agreed to the first two; after a further letter from me, they agreed to the repaint as well.

'I am very pleased that the better lighting is now in pace and working; the steps are particularly well lit, and I trust there is now no-one deterred from using the bridge by experience of the previous poor lighting. I congratulate and than Network Rail for their actions, and look forward to completion of the work' he commented.
