Are you feeling Dizzy?

April 15, 2010 9:02 AM

The Conservative Spin Machine has stepped into top gear this weekend, with the publication in Welham Green of the most outrageous statement the Conservatives have made yet.

In a recent election publication they attempt to convince local residents that the planned incinerator at New Barnfield is the fault of Labour.

Their 'news'letter states "Labour's most recent propaganda claims the incinerator would burn 270,000 tonnes of waste. Rubbish - the figure's even worse at 345,000. Hospitals, incinerators...can't Labour be trusted on anything?"

This statement appears to be the most blatant attempt to deflect public anger against the party pushing the incinerator forward, the Conservatives.

As the Lib Dems understand the incinerator plan, 270,000 tonnes of rubbish would be burnt, but 345,000 tonnes 'processed' on the site, the 75,000 tonnes difference being non-combustible waste.

The Conservatives ignore the facts that:

It is the Conservative County Council which is proposing this incinerator

It is the Conservative County Council which is failing to take residents views into account

It is Conservative County Councillors who have consistently refused to rule out New Barnfield despite proposals from Lib Dem councillors that it be excluded.

It is Conservative County Councillors who refuse to consider alternative technologies but want to 'let the market decide'

The Conservatives would have everyone believe they have changed. That they've put the 'nasty party' image behind them. It would seem their 'news'letter authors have not been informed of the change.

Lib Dem Prospective MP Paul Zukowskyj commented " This kind of blatant spin and slimy electioneering should be a thing of the past. The Conservatives have yet again demonstrated a complete lack of ethics and morality in a desperate attempt to deflect blame from themselves.

"This raises all sorts of questions about the people making decisions in Maynard house. Just how far will they stretch the truth? What will they distort next? Can you trust anything they say if they can distort the truth this far past breaking point?

What would you like to do next?
