Councillor Cowan points out the dangerous footpath

Malcolm Cowan, Liberal Democrat county councillor for Handside and Peartree, has highlighted recent failures by Herts Highways to repair dangerous footpaths.

Malcolm says 'I reported that sections of the path in Bridge Road WGC, outside Woodside House, were being broken up by roots and needed urgent repair; I also reported paving slabs that were dangerous in WGC town centre. I repeated the warning to senior management. Nothing has been done apart from to put out one cone. There is supposed to be a 24 hour response on these types of issue. Now it is more than 24 days and no action.'

Malcolm continued 'There has recently been an improvement in repairing roads in the area I represent, but pavements are getting worse, and they pose a danger, particularly to older people. The Bridge Road problem is right by where a large number of elderly people live, so the delay is particularly bad.

'I am doing a walkabout in the town centre tomorrow (Thursday) with Herts Highways to try to ensure they are aware of the problems there and take action to improve the footpaths.'
