Paul Zukowskyj Prospective MP for Welwyn Hatfield and Peter Welch, a Liberal Democrat Spokesperson on Europe
There is some good news from Brussels. Says Peter Welch: "The Common Agricultural Policy is going to cost a billion euros less than planned this year. This follows reforms, which have cut surpluses.
"The butter mountains of the past are long gone, and the EU has needed to spend virtually nothing on the controversial export refunds (which support sales of food outside Europe).
"Liberal Democrats want these savings to be made permanent - and bigger reforms of the Agricultural Policy too. But the first question is what to do with this year's savings."
