Thanks to Councillor Cowan, the foliage obscuring this sign and others will be cleared.
After 3 years campaigning, LibDem county and borough councillor has seen success in his campaign to get Herts Highways to cut back vegetation from in front of road signs. At the most recent meting of the county council's Highways and Transport panel, on which Malcolm sits, it was agreed that some money would be spent revealing the hidden signs.
Malcolm says 'It's common sense that if a sign is put up, you should be able to read it. Drivers should not have to crane their necks at the last possible moment to see if they can read them. Many signs point out possible dangers - what a nonsense to risk them being hidden.
Malcolm added 'The Welwyn Times has played a part in this success - last year they showed many of the hidden signs, including some sent in by readers. The slow-slow drip of water on stone has worked. This was the subject of my very first question at county council; now we have success - for this year anyway. I will be watching carefully to make sure they keep up the work in future years.'
