Sadly, the Ming dynasty came to a premature end in the face of a faintly ridiculous media obsession with his age and his ability to lead us. It may not be apparent to the public, but Sir Ming has been responsible for a more professional outlook within the party and we owe him a huge debt of gratitude. Ironically, his resignation followed an excellent conference speech, one of the highlights of which was this little gem.
Nick Clegg or Chris Huhne?
Gordon and Dave - the soap opera
Gordon wants to be like Maggie.
But he doesn't want to be like Tony.
Tony also wanted to be like Maggie.
But Maggie only wanted to be like
Ronnie.
Now Dave, he wants to be like Tony.
But he doesn't want to be like William,
or Iain, or Michael.
And certainly not like Maggie either.
Confused? You must be.
But you can be clear on this:
I don't want to be like any of them.
Soon there will be a leadership election, and which of our two excellent candidates do you think will lead us to power?
Will it be number one, Nick Clegg, our youthful, highly talented home affairs spokesman, (the "housewife's choice"), or number two, Chris Huhne, who finished second last time, and has led the party's environment team responsible for our flagship Zero Carbon Britain policy?
The nearest hustings will be at the Friends Meeting House, Euston Road, London, NW1 2BJ on 27th November. Full details on the events page. This is a chance to hear them both speak, so that you can make an informed choice when you vote as a member of the party.
