Press Release - former Parkway School under threat

Former Parkway Infants School
Herts County Council want to sell off the former Parkway school in WGC for probable redevelopment; local Liberal Democrat county councillor Malcolm Cowan wants this put on hold for a period to see if local voluntary and charitable groups might want to use it.
'When the school closed, 6 or 7 local voluntary bodies such as Relate were allowed to have offices there, alongside Social Services. Now some of the organisations have left, the rest have been given short leases, Social Services are set to move out and the county council see an opportunity. I would like the chance to see if other voluntary bodies and charities are interested. There is an obligation for the county council to consider this, but it doesn't seem to be happening. I have asked for a stay of execution to allow time to see which organisations might be interested.
'There aren't many other places around WGC where these bodies, who play such an important part in the community, can be based. I would like any voluntary, community or charitable body who wants an office close to the town centre, to get in touch with me' Malcolm concluded.
