Liberal Democrats are celebrating a double victory in the council by-elections held on October 11th - 2 seats up for election, both LibDem gains from Conservatives.
'This confirms the recent pattern of Liberal Democrat success in real elections, as opposed to fluctuations in opinion polls' said county councillor Malcolm Cowan. 'Both these gains were in traditional Tory territory in Sussex and Wiltshire'.
They follow another LibDem gain last week in Scotland, and gains in Essex and Lancashire during September. 'Whenever there are real elections, we do well' Malcolm concluded.
