Hertfordshire Transport grinding to a halt - thanks to Labour

Councillor Cowan asks for new direction on transport - not just more of the same blunders.

After nearly 9 years in charge, there should be some signs of improvement in our transport. But trains are more crowded, buses are more expensive and roads are more congested. Not to mention air getting more polluted.

So a few weeks ago, LibDems at County Hall tabled a motion highlighting this, and pointing out that :

  • the government has taken away money for transport and road safety from us.
  • we don't have the powers to regulate bus services that Ken Livingstone has in London.
  • our air is getting more polluted
  • there are now no plans for any bypasses or other road improvements in the next 5 years.

We had wanted to bypass Little Hadham, where you always get held up going to Stansted.

The Tories agreed with us, saying we were standing up for Hertfordshire. Labour refused to back us, saying we were too critical of the government. Malcolm Cowan, who seconded the motion, says 'We are elected to do the best for our area, our town and our county. What a shame Labour are more interested in defending the government, even where they have failed.'
